LOW VISION
Low vision describes a visual abnormality that restricts the ability to perform daily visual tasks:
- Reading
- Writing
- Cooking
- Sewing
- Watching TV
- Walking
This impediment cannot be fixed with other common solutions such as conventional glasses, contact lenses or a surgical intervention.
The most frequent visual abnormalities are the loss of visual acuity and the loss of visual field.
Causes of low vision
In some occasions, low vision can be related to pathologies such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma or macular degeneration. Although it can also be linked to some sort of eye injury, it is generally connected to the maturity stage of the person. Due to population ageing, low vision is increasingly frequent, especially amongst people aged 65 and over.
